How are we specialized in neurological voice?

Christie DeLuca has spasmodic dysphonia, herself. She is a speech language pathologist and voice specialist who works with those with neurological voice disorders such as spasmodic dysphonia and essential tremor of the voice (vocal tremor). She researches the disorder, and has worked with some of the top experts in voice and otolaryngology in the field.  See below to find what options we offer is best for you.

And in the meantime, if you are looking for a way to be supported by others going through this same thing, to re-establish hope, and to learn more about effective tips, tools, and strategies coping with your voice disorder click here to join my Facebook Group for those with spasmodic dysphonia, tremor, and similar voice disorders 💛

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injections can be extremely helpful for many. Deciding whether or not to get Botox injections as a treatment method, finding a right treatment dose, and understanding the side effects can be daunting and difficult to navigate. The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association has some great information on treatment options. You can also check out this post for more information on treatment options. If you're looking for some guidance or advice or perhaps some counseling related to your Botox injections reach out and we can set up a free consultation

Have you decided against Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injections? For some they can be minimally effective (for instance those with tremor or ABSD) and for some they can yield inconsistent results. For others, the side effect period following injections is quite significant

How do you figure out how to maximizing injection benefit?

And what about dosing and timing of injections?

Maybe you're just looking for a more conservative treatment than Botulinum Toxin injections or surgery. Or searching for something to help boost the effects of a treatment like botulinum toxin injections.

Perhaps you would like some support in managing the significant psychosocial, social, and job-related impacts of this disorder?

If you answered yes to any of these you may benefit from botulinum toxin (Botox) counseling or several sessions of individuzlied voice therapy to get the most benefit out of your treatment.

Voice therapy cannot cure spasmodic dysphonia or vocal tremor and should not be conducted with the intent to do so. Christie DeLuca uses voice therapy with individuals with spasmodic dysphonia and vocal tremor to learn how to compensate for symptoms; to be able to manage presentations, socializing, dates, speaking throughout the whole day without fatigue, and for managing phone calls. These are the same techniques that Christie relies on herself to be able to be able to carry out her daily voice duties (as a Voice SLP!) and as someone who relies on her voice for career and social demands

In voice therapy you will work techniques best suited to your specific voice and your needs. Voice therapy will also offer extensive education on what's normal and what's not, on the rationale behind treatment methods, the physiology behind voice and voice techniques, vocal hygiene and more that you may have never received.

Wondering what voice therapy may involve?
